PROJECT
FINISHED
Within the project „TWIN-The Wall-Information about Europe “ a 2x2 m big LED-wall with a European Information system from students of Germany, Italy, Poland and Hungary will be built up and programmed. The wall will be installed on the schoolyard of the involved schools. Every student, employee and guest will be able to get information about the European Union per app on their smartphones. This information will simultaneously be supported by displaying the according countries on the LED wall.
The main aim of this project is the support of the MINT-competences in context of a European cooperation. The learners enlarge their task-related knowledge about the European Union and get to know the countries involved in the project. When dealing with the students of the other project schools, they enlarge their intercultural competences. Because of the various languages that are spoken at the partner-schools, it is necessary to find a common language. The working language of the project is English. The students have to use their English skills and are also able to expand them. The functional focus is the electronic, electro-technical and the informational area. The project promotes the students’ job-related profile.
In order to realize the construction, the project it is structured in different phases. On this basis four education-, tuition- and learn activities take place, one on each project-school. One part of these activities takes place in the lessons of the schools for preparation. Six learners and two teachers of each school participate directly in the activities. A total of 250 students participate in constructing the LED wall.
Product requirements documents, task-gantts, construction plans and the comparison of offers for material costs will be drawn up. LED-modules and circuit boards will be planned and built and usable information of Europe will be worked out in order to display them on the wall. Furthermore, the microprocessor and the related app will be programmed. Before being able to commission the wall according to requirements there will be a test stage in which errors are removed and error lists are constructed.
For the documentation of every project result a website will be installed and a project logo will be drafted.
The project fosters an increased interest in European questions and other states of the European Union on the part of the participants, who will be more open-minded and will have a larger understanding for other cultures and thus enlarge their intercultural competences. This leads to more tolerance and mutual respect.
The involved schools open up for different European countries which enriches the school life. Due to the fact that three of the four cities of the involved schools are connected by town twinning, the project supports the European and cultural commitment of these cities.
The long-term benefits in terms of material are that every school possesses an LED-Wall with a European information system which can be controlled by students and teachers per app. Moreover, the wall can be lent to city halls or district halls where citizens are able to use it, too.
The complete teaching material for the construction of the LED-Wall is available on the website of the project.
