The Centre for Ecological Learning Luxembourg or simply CELL, is a non-profit organisation that provides an experimental space for thinking, researching, disseminating and practising lifestyles with a low impact on the environment, and learning the skills for creating resilient post-carbon communities. CELL is inspired by the work of the Transition Towns and Permaculture movements, and aims to relocalise culture and economy and, in that creative process, improve resilience to the consequences of peak oil and climate change. Further to setting up Transition groups, CELL does education and research in the area of sustainable living. As a volunteer-based organisation, CELL welcomes that the EVS-volunteers that we intend to recruit will have their own interests in permaculture and/or transition and that they are autonomous enough to develop their own prjects with us. We would like the volunteers to participate in daily tasks of the running of the organisation and associated transition initatives. Furthermore, the volunteers are going to have the opportunity to get hands-on, pratical experience of working on two permaculture sites associated with CELL.We would like the volunteers to be engage in one or more of the action groups and transition initiatives linked to CELL and support them. What we can offer to EVS-volunteers in terms of service and learning opportunities:- taking an active part in transition town initiatives throughout the country - acquiring permaculture skills and aspiring to food autonomy on two different sites- involvement in a multicultural team of part-time volunteers who are running CELL- self-management and pro-activity - working with action groups and, in some cases, motivating them to go forward- learning by doing through practical experience in gardening, organizing events and running an NGO- developing own 'heart project' with CELL (planning, implementing, evaluating)- communication skills- group process skills- facilitation skills- participation in trainings and events organised by CELL- living close to Luxembourg-City in a vibrant and multicultural community of vounteers and youngsters making a change in the world
