1. THE IDEA“TRANSIT@school” is based on „TRANSIT“ by Jörg Heieck (photographer and teacher in Kaiserslautern/D). In 2005 he undertook a journey along 50°N from Normandy to Poland and documented it with impressive panoramic photos. Therefore, all partners of the project are situated nearly on 50°N.Since 2007, the centre of the EU has been situated on 50°10'21"N, 9°9'E (near Gelnhausen / D). Therefore 50° N is the "centre line" of the EU and therefore an apt, but rather unknown symbol of European unity. A journey along this parallel leads straight through the heart of EU, from northern France through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany and the Czech Republic to Poland. One hits many different sceneries, cities and people associated with our European history and culture. Therefore this parallel connect us as Europeans. At the same time, one does not only meet the pleasant sides of Europe, but also the darkest chapter of our history. 2. THE PROJECT Between 2010 and 2012 the students compiled photos of four subjects:- the own city or region, - the people of this region - 2 photos from the TRANSITs to the partner schools. Thus for every partner school “TRANSIT@school” included visits to two other partners. The photos were collected on a central media gallery and made accessible via the Internet (www.transitatschool.eu). 3. FINAL EXHIBITION Each school selected the best two works in each category. From this arose the final exhibition "TRANSIT@school", which was shown in May 2012 in Clervaux/L on 50°N in collaboration with "The Family of Man" and "Clervaux-Cité de l'Image”. 4. THE FUTURE This exhibition is conceived as a touring exhibition, so that it can be in TRANSIT to all partners and interested institutions.Till autumn 2013 it will be shown in public at the EPF/L, in Eisenbach/L and in Bastogne/B on exactly 50°N, in Bamberg/D and in Kaiserslautern/D.
