Training for traceability and quality in the white fish industry of Europe

The project will produce a vocational training programme for the implementation of traceability and quality processes, from capture the fish product through to retail, it shall be demonstrated how the concepts of traceability can be translated into value adding marketing actions. The objectives of the program are to provide workers within the industry the knowledge and understanding of traceability to: fulfil the legal requirements; recognise and relate the value of traceability systems to product quality; and develop and manage traceability within their area of operation. The course will be modular in structure. The modules will combinestandard theory applicable to all steps in the value chain with case studies and practical exercises that are specific to individual steps. The modular approach will be used to tailor the vocational training to the specific needs of the trainee groups by having both core modules and those that are applicable to the particular sector of the value chain. The program consist of 10 principal modules each with a designed delivery time of 3 hours and each module consist of the underlying theory and knowledge, specific case stydies relevant to the industry/fish species to whichtraining is applied and practical exercises based on these. The modules are intended to enter mainstream vocational training for the fishing industry. As such they need to be kept relevant and current. To enable this it is envisaged that a course fee will be charged to support ongoing marketing and also post project review and update of course material. They will be accredited courses delivered through the partnership and other agencies.
