TRaining for Inclusion of Ageing people with Disabilities through Exchange
Start date: Sep 1, 2015, End date: Oct 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The transition toward an inclusive society, forces service providers from different fields to collaborate and learn from each other. In an inclusive society, mainstream and community based services support all citizens, disabled or not. Services for the elderly, need to learn how to care for and support ageing people, also when they are disabled: staff needs to acquire new, additional skills related to the needs of the disabled. At the same time, services for the disabled need to acquire skills in order to create opportunities for the disabled elderly to age at the place of their choice for as long as they wish and are able to. These services need to acquire new skills, related to 'ageing'. Both fields can learn from each other; doing so they improve the level of key competences necessary for inclusive support. This project aims to evaluate existing trainingmethods, related to the needs of the elderly and their Quality of Life, and the degree these methodes contribute to the professionalism of the staff involved to foster inclusion and Quality of Life. In addition, to ensure the inclusive approach, informal network needs to be empowerd and to develop effective skills to support their family. Evaluation of educational practices, to be visited, will result in recommendations for developing a good trainingmodel for reskilling and upskilling the actual staff of organizations, and for adapting the existing curricula in (high) schools for new staff. According to the European strategy for education 2020 concerning providing the staff the possibility of life long learning and tackle possible skills gaps between education/existing skills/working methods and the needs of the clients concerning enabling inclusion, equal rights and an active citizenship for the clients. Doing so, this contributes at the same time to the European goal to fight against the social exclusion (e.g. of citizens with disabilities).
