Romain Rolland is a foreign language high school–the biggest in the area and the one with the highest rate of students' acceptance to college.There are 86 teachers responsible for the education of 1171 students.The languages taught are English,German and French.Students choose to study two of them.Our priority is to maintain the good image of the school,keeping its high standards of education,enhancing learning and personality development.
Considering the dynamics of change in education and the fact that information technologies are becoming increasingly popular as classroom tools alongside their everyday use,some of the basic needs of Romain Rolland FLHS are to constantly improve teacher competencies,continuously implement innovative teaching methods and strategies,use the newest information technologies and platforms,perfect the language skills of the foreign language teachers,and optimize the organization of the education process.
The European development plan of the school has identified staff mobility for training as a priority.
The main aim is education quality improvement at Romain Rolland FLHS.
Our specific objectives are:
1.Improve the level of the key competences of the teachers through taking part in training courses.
2.Improve the teaching and learning of languages and promote linguistic diversity.
3.Introduce new ICT in foreign language teaching and learning.
Planned activities:
-10staff training mobilities to the United Kingdom, the partners being IPC Exeter,ITC International,Bell Teacher Cambridge.The partners provide teacher training courses in English.The participants in the project will join the following courses:Practical Ideas for the Teaching of Literature in the Classroom,Creative Methodology for Teachers,Drama Techniques for the English Language Classroom,Developing Oral Fluency in the Secondary English Language Classroom.
-6staff training mobilities to Germany,the partner being IIK Duesseldorf.The partner provides teacher training courses in German for teachers of German as a foreign language.The participants in the project will join the following courses:Methodology and ICT in German Language Teaching,Moodle&Mahara in Foreign Language Teaching,Creative Teaching.
-2 staff training mobilities to France,the main partner being the Institut de Touraine in partnership with François Rabelais University,Tours.The training courses are organised by the Department of Sociolinguistics and Language Didactic.The participants in the project will join General Language Courses for Secondary Teachers of French.
Profile of participants:16 teachers of foreign languages will take part in the project-8 English language teachers,6 German language teachers,2 French language teachers.
Expected results:
1.18 completed training mobilities and 16 certificates received.
2.18 follow-up reports submitted.
3.18 open classes taught and 16 supervision reports completed.
4. 3 one day seminars for exchange of ideas and knowledge organized.
5. 300 questionnaires filled out.
6. 2 press conferences held, 3 published articles in the local media.
7.A model for good practices in FLT created.
Methodology of project implementation
1.Analysis of school and teacher needs for professional development.
2. Supervision of the mobility.
3. Analysis of the results achieved.
4. Gain overview of the best practices and possibilities for their integration.
Impact:Influence on the teachers–increase their professional motivation;professional and personal improvement and language fluency;improve and upgrade teaching competences and class organisation;practical skills to utilise new technologies as part of the strategies for development of contemporary education.Influence on the organisation–increase the quality of education;create opportunities to exchange methodology,as well as to give teachers the right to develop creatively and professionally;modernise methods of work in foreign language education;widen the sphere of application of information technologies and introduce new platforms in teaching foreign languages.
Influence on the students–increase their personal motivation and skills,as well as the level of their key competences.The mobility project implementation at Romain Rolland FLHS will improve the quality of education,will create opportunities for exchange of experience and knowledge, and conditions for creative and personal realization of the teachers,making them better professionals,it will update the foreign language teaching methods used at school and will popularize and increase the use of ICT and the integration of new platforms in the foreign language classroom.The potential long-term effects of our participation the programme are:an increase in the effects of our participationin Erasmus+ programme are:an increase in the quality of education,the promotion of European values,the creation of stable concepts for European citizenship,and the initiation of long-term international cooperation.
