The tourism industry is the largest sector of the global economy. Medical tourism is a new rapidly growing economic activity worldwide. It refers to the transition inside and outside borders of people with health problems in order to be provided medical care that aims to prevent, diagnose and maintain their health. Requires composition, collaboration and joint effort of tourism entrepreneur and doctor. It also includes transportation, information, touring, dining and accommodation health tourists at selected hotels. Greece undoubtedly needs to put in the effort in the context for its recovery, especially in the current economic crisis, for the development of strategic goals and learn from other countries’ practices. Such a goal is to be competitive medical destination for health travelers. Our country has at its disposal the beautiful Mediterranean environment, natural wealth, mild climate and the traditional healthy cuisine, the historical and cultural heritage and especially the globally recognized medical and nursing staff that can really be competitive and establish themselves in this area. However, because it is a new form of alternative tourism there is the need for training qualified people - professionals associated with this activity. The Medical Tourism is characterized by the existing necessity of properly equipped medical infrastructure, health care specialists, specialized nurses, appropriate organization to provide high quality tourism services, medical care and appropriate visibility. The training program was designed according to the characteristics and needs of the participants in order to obtain the specialized knowledge required in respect to the health tourism, so that in combination with the received practical skills and attitudes required by their specialty, to become competitive and able to pursue and achieve their integration into the labor market. The project will include theoretical training, company visits or certified laboratories for internships and cultural visits. It is expected that students will gain important knowledge and experience for a modern problem in medical tourism. Participation in this mobility project will help achieve the following objectives:o to enrich their knowledge in special forms of tourism and, more specifically in the medical tourism,o be aware of the forms of health tourism in the whole spectrum: medical tourism, preventive medicine, curative medicine, spa tourism, tourism wellness, social tourism, healthy living programs - nutrition - sports - mental balance, tourism elderly, tourism people disabilities,o to know how to manage the patient - tourist,o to cooperate with providers of health industry and tourism,o to ensure that the special conditions of hygiene and cleanliness,o to ensure the privacy of the patient,o carry out individualized service plans to the patient,o to support communication and patient safety,o to combine sustainable development with health tourism. In the proposed project we expect to achieve multiplier effects and benefits, both for participants and for stakeholders abroad. The expected results of the project for the students are:- Understand the importance of developing health tourism,- To understand the patient's needs - tourists and to manage optimally and individual behavior,- To recognize the specific needs of each patient,- To cooperate with providers of health industry and tourism,- To adopt the good practices and implement them in their careers by improving their skills.
