PROJECT
FINISHED
Epamac, existing since 1989, is an inland rural school with VET courses- level IV, located in a region that is one of the poorest in the North of Portugal with serious problems in the area of literacy and high school abandon rates. Nevertheless 90% of our students finish 12th grade and can, actually, apply for jobs.
One of Epamac's main concern is to provide our students, aged 16 -18, with a wide range of practical experiences, which turns out to be a major benefit because there are several organizations asking for our students to do trainships.
With our project "Tourism Technitians on the Move" our main goal is to give society skilled young people who can be decisive when it comes to develop projects and therefore local region. Besides this we intend to:
- improve the level of key competences and skills as they are relevant for the development of our region / society;
- increase the learning opportunities for our students;
- strengthen the cooperation between education and the world of work;
- internationalize and modernize the level of education and training in our school;
- enhance transnational cooperation;
- be a real member of this global world through dissemination of good practices;
- show our students a major world of opportunities;
- promote mobility;
- improve the learning of languages and new cultures.
As this is the first time we are working in this kind of project we have looked for a partner that could help us in a strong way. As previously refered the wide range of activities will be held by our partner - NW Academy of English - as shown in the attached letter intent.
We believe that by giving our students the opportunities to see new realities, cultures and countries, they will be and feel able to change their reality, their family and neighbours reality that is mostly a difficult and poor reality. Most of our students have never had the chance to visit another country or even travel in their own country – a chance that has been given by our school and by some projects that we create. The contact with new realities along with the chance to improve foreign language skills will give them new possibilities in the world of work. Note that we are talking about tourism students. With this new opportunity they will show the others that success is possible! It is also important to enforce that the new culture will bring new horizons and new practices that they will, for sure, be able to share among their peers.
Our conclusion is that our students will improve knowledge and skills. We also believe that there will be some changes in their attitude and behaviour. In addition, these outcomes will have further impact on their employment status, ability to access further education, wellbeing and lifestyle. Note that this is due to their own reality or origin.
