Tourism, Service & Event is a project with the intention of giving students of the Hotel and Tourism Programme international work experience.Due to the fact that the tourism industry is international it is important to give students the tools to develop the competence they will need in their future careers. Through completing a portion of their work experience abroad the students gain a better understanding of other cultures and develop their communication in a second language. Something, which is important within the tourist industry. It is also extremely important that students travel and experience other countries, their sights, culture and cuisine. Hopefully the students will experience cultural diversity as something positive and enrichment, both at trips abroad as well as back at home in Sweden.Five students/year are going to make a part of their Work Placement Practice in Malaga, Spain. The students are finishing their last year at school, and have already got some work experience and a certain grade of maturity. It is a plus to have studied Spanish as a foreign language. The work experience will include a selection of tasks at different work places in the tourism business. There will also be both practical and theoretical education at the school IES La Rosaleda.Our project partner in Spain will help us with both supervisors and work places. We will keep a regular contact with them, both written and oral, to ensure that the students learn the right tasks. The goal is that the students will develop their understanding of other opinions, their own social competence, approach to service and in turn be more secure in their future careers. The self esteem will grow when they manage to do things in a new environment. The enhanced linguistic knowledge gives the participants more job opportunities in the future.We think that this project will lead to less drop outs from and to higher results for the students at the Hotel and Tourism Programme.Through their education and work experience in both Sweden and internationally, the hope is that students can be hired within the tourism industry in Europe.
