TIME for TENSO 12 | 13 : Innovation and Musical Excellence in Choral Music
Start date: May 1, 2012,

Tenso is the European network of professional chamber choirs. In TIME for TENSO, we focus on repertoire, performers, audiences and professionalization. Tenso wants to stimulate the creation of innovative, excellent works for professional and amateur choirs and to promote their international circulation. New works, but also the wealth of existing choral repertoire, will be brought to the public in concerts during the annual Tenso Days and elsewhere, in broadcasts and via internet. Internet plays an important role in Tenso’s actitivities: from a wiki site on repertoire for the choral community to a youtube campaign with short clips featuring public figures talking about their positive experiences as choir singer. The Tenso Europe Choir is another great tool to present the beauty of choral music to a large audience, uniting young singers from all over Europe in the first professional European choir, and giving them intensive coaching and concert experience. Working together with amateur and young singers is a way to invest in the future of singing: from creating interest for singing in a group, to coaching and training young professional singers, these are all necessary activities if we want to ensure a future for ensemble singing.Research into the professional perspectives of singers, both young and aging, and into the differences and similarities of choral practice in Europe will be initiated and disseminated via the Tenso Network. The further professionalization of the European choral world, especially in the Balkan and Mediterranean regions, is on the agenda: in meetings and seminars, but also in individual ‘internships’ the managers of the choirs collaborate and advise each other, using innovative ways to collect and spread information and expertiseTIME for TENSO takes place from May 2012 to December 2013, with (public) activities in Paris, Mechelen, Stockholm, Barcelona, Marseille, Riga, Torino, and reading sessions and meetings in other places in Europe.
