21 young people from 18-30 years old will bring 10 days long in Liepaja and Riga (Latvia) and will take part of a project „The Spirit of Democracy“. Project „ The Spirit of Democracy“ is organized by tree organizations: Deutschbaltische Studienstiftung (Germany), Domus Rigensis (Latvia) und Domus Dorpatensis (Estonia). The main topics of this project are active European citizenship, European Conscience, Democracy and Human Rights. The main objectives of this project are to motivate young people to get more involved through active European citizenship and to work actively of shaping the future Europe. Another objective is to develop in every participant a sense of responsibility for the future of the EU, so that the general public reaches the idea of European consciousness. We want to develop an understanding of the European Union, so that each participant can better understand the history of the EU, has an opportunity to learn a new cultures, better understand the European policy and experience diversity. Furthermore, we want to thematize topics of democracy and human rights and inform young people about the issues of civil rights, so that each participant understands that not everywhere human rights are respected and all of us, as citizen should make more initiatives to promote more democracy and bring into action more human rights. Another goal is to popularize non-formal education and the program Erasmus +. The main themes of this project are treated by many activities: presentations, workshops, group and individual work, discussions, development of creative posters, role playing games, cultural evenings and several visits (Europe House in Riga, Latvian Centre of Human Rights, Occupation Museum) and as a highlight of the project: participants will spend a night in the naval port prison (in Liepaja). Thanks to social networks, online and print media, we will inform citizens about the results of our project. We hope that this project will be a start of another Erasmus + projects with our partners, so that more young people can get involved to similar projects with important and interesting topics about Europe and its future.
