The Seven Deadly sins is an artistic youth exchange project, which will take place in May 2017 in Denmark. The exchange is the climax of an international/local project in Randers in cooperation with Randers Kunst Museum and the European Cultural Capital of Aarhus 2017. The promoter and coordinator of the project is Teaterskolen Kastali’a.The seven youth groups from different countries consists of 7 youngsters between 16 – 22 years old, and two youth leaders (one experienced leader and one inexperienced ‘trainee’ youth leader).Participants will be mixed groups of gender coming from different socio-economic backgrounds. All participants must be young people wanting to develop themselves through creativity and art.The objectives of the project: • To get young people to reflect on the seven deadly sins in a contemporary international context.• To get young people to discuss how the concept of sin has changed, and what it means for society.• To include young people in the current debate of values and give them a voice.• To illuminate the seven deadly sins from several European perspectives.• To bring the young people through a democratic working process related to the values we have in the present.• To create an understanding of cultural differences.• To create 7 small artistic performance pieces – one on each of the seven deadly sins• To implement the ‘Euro Invasion’ to disseminate the project in rural areas• To create new friendships and networks.• To strengthen the relation between the partner organizations and to explore how to use creative and artistic methods in youth work. The project will start it’s preparatory phase with an APV already in October 2016. The reason for this early start is that the project demands an extended local preparation of the partner organizations as this is an artistic project. There will be a local preparatory phase in each country in the spring 2017, where the participants in national groups will debate and interpretate the Seven Deadly sins and their relevance in the 21st centry. The participants will be offered a small training in performance skills and they have to develop a short performance of their interpretation of one of the Seven Deadly Sins.In May in Denmark everybody meets – to show their pieces and to extend the debate to what could be the concept of a sin in Europe today. To discuss shared common values. After the discourse the participant will create a parade and costumes and scenography for their performances out of recycle materials. In the end of the youth exchange we will implement ‘The Euro-Invasion’-event, which practically is an invasion of 4 villages in rural areas, where the youth will interact with the residents, perform and in this way spread their project results. This event will be a part of the European Cultural Capital of Aarhus’ Rethink –program. The methods of the exchange will be non formal learning methods e.g world café and corporative learning. And then we will work with creativity as a tool for learning and understanding and self expression. The basic approach will be Appreciative Inquiry in the artistic processes. The envisaged impact is to grow a youth with a cultural awareness, which is not afraid to use their critical voices to what is going on in Europe today with the pressure from the refugees. Youth who are not afraid to speak up – using artistic methods to make their statements. We want to strengthen the relationship between the partner organizations hoping to develop a sustainable long term connection for future corporation between the organizations, developing a new network of organizations working with artistic approaches in their youth work. The corporation can be extended also to include EVS and training activities.
