The Protection of Geographical Indications and Traditional Speciality Guaranteed in the European Union Law

The main aim of this project is to develop a new course in module structure on “Protection of Geographical Indications and Traditional Specialities Guaranteed in EU Law” which targets higher education students from different departments such faculties or departments of engineering, architecture who would like to learn about the protection of geographical indications (GIs) and traditional specialities guaranteed (TSG) in EU Law at Istanbul Technical University. The duration of programme is 42 hours (14 weeks) which will be designed as one semester course. A new teaching module on protection of geographical indications and traditional specialities guaranteed in EU Law will be introduced, consisting of a new interdisciplinary course. The staff of the module is international. Modern teaching methodologies and open education sources will be applied. Our primary target groups are the third and fourth year undergraduate students of ITU, our other target groups are other university’s students, public professionals working in agri-food sector, producer groups, officials working in ministries like Ministry of Justice, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Turkish Patent Institute, Ministry for EU Affairs, Ministry of Agriculture judges, lawyers, trademark attorneys, public administrators, local development agents, chambers of commerce and general public. Other related stakeholders and interested people can also participate to the module. By participating to the module the students and the other participants will not only learn the basic concepts of EU Law but they will also learn the protection of GIs and TGS both in international agreements, in EU Law and Turkish Law. By the help of the module the professionals can update and broaden their knowledge about GIs and TGS.
