The Pot of Gold - Education and exchange to fight hate speech and discrimination
Start date: Jan 1, 2016, End date: Feb 28, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

The project "The Pot of Gold" intends to address the emergence and spread in youth contexts of hate speech and discrimination based on gender and sexual orientation. In the regular activities of the partners, involving thousands of young people every year, the crystallizing of stereotypes and prejudices denotes how urgent it is to affirm European values of solidarity and equality, as it is just generalizations and lack of knowledge that arise discriminatory behaviors, arming the dignity of others. The main objective of the project is to understand the causes and forms of discrimination, to equip the beneficiaries of the two actions-a training for youth workers and trainers and a subsequent youth exchange - with useful tools and experiences to increase awareness and contrast of such phenomena. The two residential activities of the project will involve 25 youth workers engaged in community centers in marginal areas, the centers from which the 30 young people will be involved in the preparation and in execution of the exchange. The training will see participants involved in simulation and analysis of the psychological dynamics and cultural factors that favor the appearance of discrimination, and the acquisition of new skills and techniques to manage conflict situations. The exchange, which will be led by a pool of youth workers who have previously participated in the training, through methods withbig emotional and educational impact, will foster the unveiling of discriminatory phenomena and enable young people to position themselves critically to the common acceptance of discrimination. Teamwork and intensity of residential experiences foster the sharing of ideas, opinions and solutions that the participants themselves will formulate. The project partners, wanting to tackle the rapid spread of discrimination with campaigns and awareness-raising initiatives, will immediately engage youth workers and the boys and girls who have participated in the exchange, to design and carry out targeted actions with young people involved in the various contexts. The project will produce lasting results: the organizations of the partnership will be able to count on a good group of young and motivated on an international pool of trainers capable of handling education initiatives, awareness campaigns and design processes that are able to address the sensitive issues of the project. In this way, partners can connect their own initiatives in campaigns and actions of the European level, thus reinforcing the fight against discrimination in Europe.
