The department of International Relations at Kadir Has University offers only three BA level courses (European Integration, Turkey-EU Relations and ESDP) on European integration, solely one of which is compulsory as well as one postgraduate and one PhD level course on the European integration as electives. In this context, the limited number of courses in the International Relations curricula at all levels creates a well-grounded need to intensify EU-related study at a higher-education institution of a negotiating country for EU accession. By introducing a new intensive two-track module on the “EU and Security in The Wider Neighbourhood” designed as a two-weeks long specialized teaching programme at the postgraduate level targeting international audience mostly coming from the Eastern and Southern neighbourhood countries, this proposal aims at creating awareness on the EU’s role in the wider neighbourhood. This proposal also fosters the publication and dissemination of the results of academic research. With its 3-year long research plans on “EU’s Role and Capacity in Regional Conflicts” as well as the “Turkey and the EU in the Shared Neighbourhood” reflected in outputs/deliverables such as working papers, articles and books published in international outlets, which rather stay as less-researched topics of the field, specifically from a security approach in a comparative manner, this proposal aims at creating a sound and innovative research strategy. The outputs/scholarly deliverables will not only be adding to the visibility of the University as an institution focusing on EU-related academic work, but also be circulated among relevant policy-makers and government officials which will have a likely impact on the policy-formation processes, thereby providing a link between the scholarly work and the practice of EU politics.
