The English Working World
The English Working World
Start date: Jun 1, 2016,
End date: May 31, 2018
PROJECT
FINISHED
Our students are doing their vocational school education, where they learn competencies which are needed in the companies of the globalized world. In England they are to get acquainted with the corporate culture of another country, so that they develop an understanding for other ways of working, and to experience other customs in practice. We mean to initially choose 15 students (and in 2017 a further 15) who have an adequate level of English and who have shown through their behaviour that they are open to new views and are willing to put a lot of effort into improving themselves. The students will prepare the contents pertaining to working in England in class and decide together on the goals they want to achieve.ADC-College has, for several years, been in contact with companies that are suited to the needs of the students, according to their respective interests, language competencies or their age, but all our students will be working in the area of business administration or retail. They will arrive together in London and will be welcomed by ADC-College, who have arranged their accommodation in advance. After an introduction workshop the students will leave for their respective companies, where they will deal with everyday working situations, in the same way as they would in Germany. At a certain moment during their stay they will meet with a mentor who will talk with them about the work placement. As we are in close contact with the mentor for Germany, we are sure the students will gain a lot of knowledge, for ADC-College maintains close connections with the companies. We expect that the gain for our students, both from a point of view of language and personal development, will be substantial, for they will not only need to use English on a daily basis, but also become acquainted with the vocabulary particular to the working world. Further, they will learn about adequate behaviour at the workplace, and they will possibly be able to grow to become much more independent and self-confident.We therefore hope to prepare the students better for the tasks within European or international businesses, and to attain a working mobility within Europe. Moreover, the project also aspires to enhance international thinking and understanding within the staff of our school. Further, we would like to contribute towards the vocational schools in Mainz becoming more international, which is why we will collaborate with other schools, so that a work placement abroad becomes a normal part of school life.
