This project is the first attempt to create a mutual understanding of history and culture in a European region. Academic views and individual perceptions and experiences meet in innovative ways. Within the framework of an intercultural dialogue common regional history, culture and identity are (de)-constructed. With the help of the wikipedia concept, the Baltic Sea History Project breaks down the barriers between (academic) books and the internet.The Baltic Sea History Project intends• to raise the awareness that there is not only one perspective on historical events, but multiple perspectives, which have to be exchanged on a basis of mutual understanding and respect • to overcome nationally confined perceptions of the history of the Baltic Sea region by promoting transnational discussions • to foster dialogues not only of experts, but also of larger groups as students, teachers etc. in concrete projects as summer schools or workshops on transnational history • to develop a new approach to mutual transnational understanding with new media as an interactive process Achievements: At the invitation of the Council of the Baltic Sea States (CBSS) a core group of the European project "CULTURAL PERSPECTIVES - on the way to a Baltic Sea Cultural Identity" met from 20 to 22 March 2014 for a workshop in Stockholm. The project targets to develop a pilot module for a virtual history book of the Baltic Sea Region by taking the example of urban architecture.At their meeting, the participants from Estonia, Finland, Poland and Germany decided on the guidelines for authors and discussed how the present articles should be editorially standardised. These texts show in a multi-perspective approach the creation, development and perception of urban places, monuments and architectural ensembles in the Baltic Sea Region.
