The Backstage – European Junior Backstage Technicians: a framework of competences fostering European training and mobility

A. CONTEXT Project idea was born from consideration that: • 7.5 million NEETs (aged 15 to 24) in EU27; • High number of small and medium theatres in Europe, that can offer employment to young technicians with wide theatrical technical expertise;Small and medium theatres cannot afford to hire different technicians for each different backstage function • No adequate training that includes principles and techniques of main backstage professional areas; only focused training in single areas is available; • Theatrical production is an attractive sector of employment for the youngsters and is an activity, which brings them self-confidence, soft skills and ability to teamwork. B. OBJECTIVES • Efficient professional training for theatrical technician to NEETs with basic knowledge; • Online ICT tools for facilitating target group’s employment opportunities by improving their knowledge, skills and competences. • Working mobility of people by creating an ECVET Training Course with recognized Learning Outcomes on EU level; C. NUMBER AND PROFILE OF PARTICIPANTS 1. 40 youth with basic knowledge in theatrical techniques attend online course on e-learning platform, after passing entrance test. At course closure, they attend evaluation test: if result is positive, they obtain Professional Certificate for Theatrical Technician valid Europe wide thanks to ECVET methodology. Objective: at least 70% of attendants (i.e. 28) will obtain the Certificate. 2. Out of these: 8 (2 per country) will be with fewer opportunities: cultural, economic or geographic obstacles. 3. At least 28 certified attendants will enrol in European Online Database of Qualified Professionals. 4. 16 attendants (4 per country; out of these at least 1 with fewer opportunities) with best results will participate at transnational mobility (2 months), where will apply theoretical knowledge gained during e-course, and receive Europass Mobility Certificate successfully finishing internship abroad. D. METHODOLOGY AND DESCRIPTION OF ACTIVITIES Management is divided into 3 major phases: 1. Preparation; 2. Implementation; 3. Closure and follow up. A1. Preparation A1.1 Contract signature with partners; A1.2. Elaboration of manual of procedure (MoP); A2. Implementation Project phases are of 3 types: A. Project Management (included O6 “Project Data Management”), quality assurance and evaluation: cross-cutting activities lasting all project life span: 5 Steering Committee Meetings. B. 6 chronologically vertical project stages: at the end of one stage, the following starts; outputs of a stage are inputs for next one: 1. O1: Need Analysis Report; 2. O2: European Professional Qualification Curriculum for Theatrical Technician Profession (EQF Level 4) 3. O3: Course Manual; 4. O4: E-learning platform; 5. O5: Online Database of Qualified of Theatrical Technician Professionals. 6. Learning/Teaching/Training Activities (long-term mobility): C1. Training activity [IT]; C2. Training activity [N]; C3. Training activity [BG]; C4. Training activity [DE]. C. IMPACT Local: 60 local stakeholders; 40 young professionas; 40 NEETs per partner; Regional: 4 Regional Administrations; 80 stakeholders, 60 young Professionals; 60 NEETs; National: 3 EU Member Countries and 1 EEA and EFTA; 200 national stakeholders, 160 professionals and 120 NEETS, 8 people with fewer opportunities; European: at least 10 EU Member Countries; International: at least 5 small and medium theatres. H. LONG TERM BENEFITS - enhanced employment chances for NEETs and qualified young professionals; - online free ECVET training tools for improving competences; - European Online Database of Qualified Professionals provides ranking of professionals according to knowledge, skills and competences: theatres find easily young technicians and experts; Project is easily replicable in other contexts and EU Countries, increasing possibility of multiplying actions and effects reaching new and larger segments of beneficiaries.
