The project aims to investigate and identify other operations - in addition to iron ore - which could be carried on the planned rail route, and which other business-oriented and evolutionary opportunities and synergies, a railroad would mean. For further work, it is important to explore and describe the full potential by evaluate and analyze the Arctic Ocean way opportunities and obstacles. To do market research and segmentation analysis of the Arctic Ocean way, comparing ice conditions and transportation facilities with the Gulf of Bothnia, to do market survey for the needs of Finnish industry if the way becomes a reality. Develop plans for the future operation of the way. The project's main objective is to investigate and document possible transport streams for this track alignment, regionally, nationally and internationally. The project will provide concrete information on the particular ice conditions in the Gulf of Bothnia, the effects of industry and environmental indicators
