A central starting point in the Skärgårdsleden project was to show the way to natureand the archipelago culture in a sustainable manner, and to increase the accessibility to thenatural resources and interesting culture of the archipelago area. The aim of the projectwas to realise and market a route starting in Roslagen in Sweden, via Åland and Åbolandinto Kyrkslätt and to, along the archipelago route, offer visitors basic services of highquality and different types of products, services and reservable packages.The idea was that the reservable packages would be sold via sales organisations and thatthe products should be made as packages with different themes such as food, culture,nature and special packages offering different physical activities. The project also providedfor training within business administration, customer service, quality assurance and environment.Marketing for the trail was coordinated with regional tourist organisations, a cooperationthat today has developed into an established cross-border cooperation. One comprehensivegoal for the project was that one should contribute to strengthen the feeling andimpression among the participating actors; that they belong to a unified archipelago area.
