The Application of Multiple Intelligences Theory to Increase the Effectiveness of e-Learning, Recruitment Practices and Internet Search Engines

E-learning suffers from user dissatisfaction with the tools offered and consequently a high dropout rate and a lack of successful completion of e-learning courses. Recognising this problem, the project partners intend to increase the effectiveness of e-learning by offering learner-centred solutions that focus on the human potential of users rather than on the capabilities of the e-learning technology. Project partners have identified research on Multiple Intelligence (MI) theory as offering a possible route to enhancing existing e-learning practice (as applied to the individual learner), recruitment practice and use of internet search engines. MI theory has typically been applied to traditional learning scenarios but will be transformed for use on e-learning applications during the course of the project, for which a new model for MI theory application in e-learning will be developed by the project partners. The developed model will explore tools for measuring an individual's MI profile that could assist the individual with identification of an appropriate training and career path. These tools are expected to also be of use to employers in identifying an employees training needs and potential. In turn, the project partners intend to apply the MI model to improve the individual's use of internet search engines as resource tools. The project will result in a range of outputs to accompany the new model, including a general guidebook on the application of MI theory to e-learning courses. Existing e-learning courses will be re-configured according to the new MI theory criteria and will be piloted online with students who will be asked to complete an online questionnaire about the new learning approach based on MI theory. A final report and an end project conference will summarise and present project findings to a wide audience, with a focus upon those interested in applying MI theory to e-learning and to other scenarios.
