PORTUGUESE TILE´S TECHNIQUES
The Project consists in the implementation of tiles with traditional and contemporary techniques for coating buildings’ façades or the realization of ceramic murals. The activities planned include all the stages related to the manufacturing process, from the digital image processing until the firing and tiles’ assembly.
The place chosen for the mobility is Joaquim Pombal’s studio in Porto (Portugal). He is a very well-known ceramist specialized in Portuguese tiles' techniques.
General Objectives:
1- To integrate the student in a group work, and also in a planned ceramic process with a real production context.
2- To show the comercial viability of decoration applied to wall coverings.
3- To learn the implementation techniques and ceramic murals' assembly.
4- To determine the strategies and key points related to the different stages of the process.
5- To produce a whole project which will include both the design and the ceramic manufacturing.
6- To consolidate skills in serial or manual decoration procedures within the ceramic practises that are applied in the project.
7- To assume the commercial possibilities related to Ceramics.
8- To provide students other ways of knowledge due to the cultural and linguistic enrichment the venue offers them.
Expected results:
Skills: Design, implementation and tiles' decoration. Ceramic murals' assembly.
Knowledge: design planning and murals' assembly made with present and contemporary techniques.
Both knowledge and skills acquired will provide participants a larger competence in their integration into the labour market.
