Start date: Jun 26, 2014,
End date: Jun 25, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
Our school and staff has not yet got enough experience to evaluate properly the usability and accessibility of tablets for teaching and learning. We are keen to learn about the best practice approaches and practical examples for using tablets in Modern Language teaching as we hope to develop the use of tablets in our school over the coming years. We want to develop and integrate these new strategies and tablet technologies into the school´s curriculum and lesson plans, with a focus initially on Modern Language education. We also plan to apply for an Erasmus + Key Action 2 project working with other European schools (Scotland, Finland, France, Belgium) to develop the use of tablets in education. It is hoped that we will make new contact with teachers from other European schools with whom we can work in a variety of ways, particularly in the Modern Languages department.
Our school therefore needs formally trained staff who can help the school to develop a policy plan on innovative ways of digital learning and the use of tablets and who can develop lesson plans/schemes of work which involved the use of tablets in Modern Language teaching. By attending the course organised by Euneos ( Tap-pinch-swipe) in Spain, the two members of staff will receive this training and will cascade that information to other teaching staff. The training will be used to help to develop innovative lesson plans and schemes of work to be used in the classroom.
The two participants of the Modern Languages departments are keen to attend the course and to make use of the training received in the classroom and beyond.
A number of course providers and courses were initially considered. The chosen course runs in Spain over a 6 day period (not including travel) and covers a huge range of activities and learning areas as detailed in this application. The programme of the course is tailored to improve the skills, competences and knowledge of the participants in the usage and adaptation of tablets in education.
On the course we will be using a combination of hands-on practical experience, discussion and didactic methods with an emphasis on the hands-on approach to learning:
- learn how to accommodate the importance of technology (the use of tablets) in education and how this affects teaching and learning
-learn about concepts and tools which are important for the use of tablets in education and cascade this information to others
- learn how to synchronise tablets and PCs to create, present, engage and access students in active learning
- learn about Flipped Classrooms and the role of tablets
- learn basic media production skills using different apps (text, photo, pdf, audio, screen casting, etc.)
- learn how to adapt the new pedagogy and Bloom's Taxonomy of Apps (usability and accessibility, review of resources, presentation, etc.)
- produce a video inquiry, and know the elements of creating quality short videoproductions
- learn about the possibilities for sharing and publishing videos (rich media) content online; privacy, ownership and safety discussion
- use and implement tablet features for assessment and evaluation in learning
We will also learn about the pros and cons of the different types of tablets and their use for teaching and learning purposes as compared with other tools and methods- and much more.
