The closest town to Szeged in Serbia is Novi Knezevac hardly over than 25 kilometers far from each other. There are two smaller villages on both sides: Újszentiván, Tiszasziget, Dala and Sprski Krstur. The efforts for integration of small regions made impetus to the need for the development of the infrastructure significantly improving the links between the townships and for the construction of the bike road. The most important target groups are the local population, bike tourists and sport and leisure users. The objectives of the project: the users may run in a safer way, by the environment friendly transportation the ones using the road contribute to the decrease of air pollution, they may reach their target without any wait and in a faster way. With the project the bike road will be built in total length of 8.812 m with the surface of 19.900 m2.In the present phase the road from Tiszasziget to the border, to the deepest point of Hungary and to the Peplar lake, in Újszentiván a complementary road and the internal roads in Dala. Achievements: The distance between Szeged and Novi Kneževac is only about 25 kilometres and there are two villages between them on each side: Újszentiván, Tiszasziget, Dala and Sprski Krstur. One of the goals of Hungary-Serbia IPA Cross-Border Cooperation Programme was to build new or strengthen existing physical connection between the two countries by supporting the development of traffic infrastructure. The three local governments seized the opportunity and through the cross-border partnership developed a three-phase plan for building a connecting bicycle path and implemented it. The first phase of the project was carried out in the 1st Call for Proposals (HUSRB/0901/111/095), the third in the 3rd Call for Proposals (HUSRB/ 1203/111/139). This project is the second phase of the whole implementation. Irrespective of the borders, the people who live in the border region have similar problems and joys in their everyday lives. So efforts to integrate this small region drove the need to develop infrastructure in order to significantly improve the links between the towns and to construct the bicycle road. The project partners intended to improve the everyday living and commuting of the local population in the settlements and offer new opportunities for bike tourists and sport and leisure enthusiasts. The partners managed to finalise the second phase of the previously planned bicycle road within this project. On the Hungarian side, the bicycle road connects Szeged with the border crossing at Tiszasziget–Dala, and on the Serbianside the bike road goes to Dala. The bicycle road is equally useful for cyclists and runners. Users of the bicycle road can feel safer and people driving cars can reach their destination faster and without delays. Naturally, using the bicycle path is not only safe, but also environment friendly as it contributes to reducing air pollution.
