Systemic University Change Towards Internationalization
Start date: Sep 1, 2016, End date: Aug 31, 2019 PROJECT  FINISHED

SUCTI (Systemic University Change Towards Internationalization) is the internationalisation at home response for administrative staff. While most internationalisation efforts have targeted students and professors, the SUCTI project aims at empowering the backbone of universities: its administrative staff. This sector of our institutions, if convinced of the importance and added value of internationalization, can become true change agents towards internationalising our institutions. They have the key to transforming the internal mindset of universities so that they become truly international institutions. SUCTI (acronym but also the genitive form of SUCTUS, Latin word which means imbibe, absorb) has created a training programme to deliver to administrative staff in their own language and in their home institution, so that staff takes in the internationalisation objective as their own and the institution absorbs it in its mindset, thus transforming from within into a comprehensively international university. But the SUCTI project is wider than just the offer of training courses. Its objectives are to raise awareness of this backbone segment of our universities within the field of internationalisation, develop a reference course on internationalisation for staff, train trainers to give this course, create a network of training experts in internationalisation, measure results and share this know-how, materials, manuals and results to all European universities, thus creating a multiplying effect and helping all our institutions to enhance the management, governance and innovation capacities in order to become truly international.
