Sveriges Ridgymnasium Erasmus+ Vocational Mobility Project

Sveriges Ridgymnasium AB (SRG) Flyinge, Kungsbacka, Sigtuna, Svedala and Varberg. Sweden’s Riding-college was founded in 2005 in Varberg, Sweden by five persons. Four of these are involved in the showjumping circuit and one person is a dedicated dressage rider / trainer. Today SRG has schools in Kungsbacka, Svedala, Sigtuna and Flyinge. SRG currently has about 320 students spread over the five sites. Show jumping and dressage are still the most popular branches of the equestrian sport. All the schools are part of the traditional secondary educational system in Sweden. Our students have the opportunity to take the Swedish Equestrian Federation’s international "Groom certificate" during school hours. Minimum 15 weeks of the education must be situated outside the school as vocational training. Most partners in the context are of course in Sweden. Several students are employed as grooms and riders around Europe after their graduation. Their international exposure has been possible through our earlier EU programme Leonardo da Vinci and Erasmus+ Call: 2014. Students from the Scandinavian countries are able to apply and enter our schools due the bilateral agreements with Sweden. All schools have a national intake. Students from other countries may enter our schools in subject to availability due to special guest student programs. In the current situation SRG have students from Italy, Denmark, Finland and Norway. The college platform is the national program named: "Natural Resource Programme", which is a professional program with the ability to pre-university courses. Kungsbacka, Varberg and Svedala has NIU- "National sports training" for elite riders. All schools also have the profile SRGi - "Sweden’s Ridgymnasium Individual programme" as an alternative sports profile for elite riders. SRG's cooperation with the Erasmus+ programme has been highly appreciated by both students and participating organizations. During the Call: 2014, a total of 67 students were able to do their traineeship in Belgium, Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands. The goal of the project was to offer our students the opportunity to develop personally, socially and professionally skills within our vocational program. It has been highly achieved by the experience in traveling, self-confidence and self-esteem, expanded language stores and increased vocabulary of technical terms. The students have also gained experience in the encounter with a new culture and the opportunity to experience horse management and to work in another country and by disseminating their experiences and knowledge with other students and teachers, etc. Many of the students also found jobs on their internships or through the contacts they tied during their traineeship. The target has been to send students from second and third year (17 to 19 years of age) from the school. The students have had to apply for a space in the project. We have firstly seen to the opportunities for personal and professional development for the individual. The participating students have been writing travel reports, which they have presented to the rest of the school. A number of travel books are published at the school’s website and at the Facebook page (with a reach of over 31 700 so-called "likers”). The travel books have also been published at SRG's own network magazine named “Ptroo”. The students are encouraged to post photos on Instagram during their stay abroad, then with the #Erasmus+. Several students have been writing blogs from their internships in order to spread their experiences of the project. The students who participated in the Erasmus+ program also represents the school at high school fairs and exhibitions at international equestrian competitions in Stockholm and Gothenburg. For the individuals in the project, the strongest impact has been the personal and professional development. Within the organization, the student’s new experiences have led to discussions in the classes, as on for example horse management - that can be different in different cultures. These are important issues to discuss, both within the school and within the Swedish horse industry. One way to lift these and similar questions have been through the school's local program. A supervisor from one of the participating organizations in the Netherlands, was visiting our schools in Sweden to teach showjumping. The result of the activity gave more of our school's students the opportunity to take part in the project by being taught in English by a person with international experience. During the Erasmus+ program Call: 2014, some participating organizations have been replaced with new ones, this in order to increase the quality we wish our students to benefit from the program. SRG’s staff, who are responsible for the project, have made regular visits to our partners to make sure that the contracts and "Learning Agreement" are followed.
