The SUM Project aims to promote the implementation of local/regional policies regarding sustainable urban mobility, trying to minimize three serious problems: CO2 emissions causing the greenhouse effect, the energy dependence which puts us in a situation of high economic and political instability, and pollution of the cities which leads to serious consequences for health and quality of life. The overall objective of The SUM Project is to contribute to the promotion and consolidation of sustainable urban transport modes through interregional cooperation. The operational objectives are: _Promoting knowledge sharing and joint discussion on regional practices to benefit sustainable mobility, creating greater awareness in the field of sustainable urban mobility. _Enhancing the regions with less experience in new eco-friendly modes of transport in order that they can work together with more advanced regions in this field, drawing on their knowledge and expertise._Identifying the most effective practices to ensure that citizens adopt behaviours and habits more sustainable in urban mobility, analyzing information and awareness campaigns, the sustainable transport alternatives available and advantages for the population._Specifying in an Implementation Plan the necessary actions to implement the gained experiences and knowledge in each region through the participation in the program. This consortium is composed by:Municipality of Vigo,Regional Management Agency of Energy,Region of Murcia,Regional Agency for Energy and Environment in the Algarve,Municipality of Messina, Municipality of Reggio Emilia,Riga City Council,City of KatowiceMunicipality of Vratsa,Sofia Municipality,Regional Energy Agency of Pazardjik,Amiens City council,The Skåne Association of Local Authorities,Energy Agency for Southeast Sweden,Essex County CouncilThe main OUTPUTS expected are: 7 interregional events for the exchange of experiences, 196 participants in these events, 15 good practices identified, 14 regional/local policies and instruments addressed in the field tackled by operation, 14 implementation plans, 5 press releases disseminated, 2 brochures created, 3.734 copies of brochures disseminated, 5 newsletters created, 14.000 copies of newsletters disseminated, 19 dissemination events organised. The main RESULTS expected are: 28 members of the staff who will increase their capacities as a result of the exchange, 9 good practices successfully transferred, 9 regional/local policies and instruments improved, 75 articles/appearances in press and media , 240 participants in the dissemination events, 300 visits to the website per month. Achievements: The Interreg IV C project named SUM PROJECT (sustainable urban mobility) is comprised of 15 partners from 9 different countries (Spain, Portugal, Italy, Latvia, Poland, Bulgaria, France, Sweden and the UK), where: 10 municipalities, 4 energy agencies and 1 association of local authorities. The project, that will be implemented from the 01/01/2012 to 30/06/2014, has as a main objective to contribute through interregional cooperation, to promote and consolidate the sustainable urban transport mode as universal and competitive, highlighting the potential of using electric vehicles and encouraging a dialogue to develop a joint European strategy aimed at strengthening the Sustainable Mobility. SUM Project has two main objectives: promoting among the citizenship more sustainable urban mobility guidelines and enable a gradual replacement in European cities of the traditional vehicle for an electric one and other clear means of transport mode, through a coordinated strategy for sustainable mobility. SUM Project is focused on identifying the most effective practices in the field of sustainable mobility to ensure that citizens change their behavior when travelling to transport modes more environmentally friendly. This will be achieved through a specific action plan for each European region and through the dissemination and promotional campaigns for the general public. The project is composed of three main work packages: Management and Coordination, Communication and dissemination and exchange of experiences dedicated to the identification and analysis of good practices. In the first semester of the project, partners have been dedicated mainly to make future planning of the project, laying the groundwork for how to carry out the activities. In April 2012 the First Meeting of the Steering Committee in Faro (PT9) was carried out, managing to establish a schedule of the activities programmed over the coming months. Thus, we determined how the 1st Regional Study on sustainable mobility should be structured, having as subject electric mobility. We also planned the organization of the 1st Workshop that will be held in Vigo (ES) in the month of October 2012 and the 1st Regional Visit, to be held in Riga (LV) in December 2012, both under the theme of Sustainable Electric Mobility. The achievements of this first project period have also been based on establishing the basis for each partner to make a greater dissemination of the project between the public and key decision-makers relating to the Energy and Transport, conducting press conferences and implementing the 1st project Newsletter.
