In the most north-western part of Vojvodina, the aquifer system is frequently shared with neighbouring Hungary and has not been sufficiently examined so far. The main groundwater consumers are cities and industries of Subotica, Sombor, Backa Topola, Bajmok, and Kanjiza. Evidence of over-exploitation is palpable. In addition to extraction for municipal and industrial water, groundwater is also used for irrigation purposes. The goal of the project is to create basic tools for cross-border water management and monitoring for future sustainable groundwater use, including flood prevention and protection of the environment. Within the frame of this project data will be gathered and evaluated, status of water consumption and demands will be assessed, and necessary equipment for field survey will be provided.
