Context and background of the project:
The project Sustainable Communities and Democracy was held in Sólheimar May 11th ? May 18th in Sólheimar eco village Iceland. The workshop was held at Sólheimar Eco village in South Iceland. Sólheimar is a world renowned sustainable community known for its artistic and ecological atmosphere where about 100 people live and work together. It was founded in 1930 by Sesselja Hreindís Sigmundsdóttir (1902 ? 1974). It is a small village set out in the country side, characterized by vegetation, open common spaces and buildings that nicely co-exist with the landscape. Sólheimar community focuses on the growth and development of man and nature. The social emphasis is that different individuals are offered variable opportunities to work, live and socialize.
This was a multi/lateral youth exchange between Iceland, Italy, Spain and Portugal which took place in Sólheimar Eco ? village in Iceland in May 2015. Young people profited profoundly by raised awareness of sustainability lifestyle thru community, the democratic processes and active citizenship regarding those issues. We used different interactive informal learning tools to facilitate this such as world café, energizers, cultural evenings, presentations, visits to historical governmental institutions, music and art. It lasted for 8 days, with 4-7 young participants and 1-2 leader per country a total of 28 people. Age group ranged from 18-29.
