Although many high-quality codes and principles of good governance exist in the world of sport, the actual implementation of these principles into the daily management and governance of sport organisations is in general not very far advanced. The SIGGS Project aims to close this gap between theory and practice by helping National Olympic Committees (NOCs) and national sport federations (NFs) with enhancing their governance by providing practical guidance on how to implement principles of good governance.To achieve this ambitious goal, various activities will be organised including the development of educational tools. As the focus will be on practical and individualised help, the project will seek to customise these tools and training according to the needs of the respective sport organisations. The national training sessions, which will be organised in 7 European countries, will therefore be conducted based on individualised tools and with a customised approach. A Steering Committee, consisting of experts from various fields and sectors, will be responsible for the general guidance of the project. Dissemination, external expertise, flexibility and individualised help are just some of the key elements of the project design. On top of that, special attention will be given to sustainability by for instance the development of national strategies and the setting-up of national contact points. In this regard, the project is expected to raise awareness on the importance of good governance, to enhance the governance of sport organisations across Europe, to foster innovative synergies at both national and European level and to start a process towards better governance that lasts beyond the lifetime of the project. To implement the various activities, the SIGGS Project can rely on a strong partnership of 12 partners including 8 European NOCs, the catholic university of Louvain (UCL), EOSE, the Leadership Academy of DOSB and the EOC EU Office (as project coordinator).
