Student Training In A Foreign Company
Start date: Jun 1, 2015,
End date: May 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
Since many years, most students from the 3rd grade in our school do a training. But some topics are not addressed during this training:
* differences in work culture
* how to manage in a foreign language (tecnical comminication in another language)
* how to deal with colleagues outside the plant in another culture
* how to respect other (foreign) work ethics
* a bigger independence of our students by for example budget control
An inquiry of our students made us clear that they too consider this as a big lack.
There was already a foreign training of some students in the past ((Leonardo project) and since that moment students became aware of the impact of such a European experience.
We have to do with 18 students from the 3th grade (mechanics, mechanical construction techniques and industrial ICT techniques) and these studenst will be assisted by 3 supervisors.
This project inlcudes a two week training in Spain (Basque country). Our students will realize this training in the development department of Tenneco Spain (or one of their suppliers). It is a three week training in a department related to the students’ education.
Our students often find work in multinationals. That’s why it is important that they will get some work experience abroad. Most international contacts between companies are realized in English and a lot of technical manuals don’t even exist in Dutch. More and more technicians are also sent abroad to follow a training or for temporary employment.
Participants will be prepared linguisticly, professionally, culturally and personally for this training.
During the weekends of this training, cultural trips to Bilbao (Guggenheim) and San Sebastian are planned.
The students have to create and maintain a weblog (or Facebook page) and to write a training report.
Afterwards the students will give a Powerpoint presentation for their parents, teachers and fellow students.
After the training the whole project will be evaluated by all parties.
Output
By this project we hope to prepare our students for the labour market.
To help the students choose : to start working or to continue studying (Long Life Learning project)
Students will learn which attitudes are important in company work (students will acquire skills like punctuality, team work, commitment, safety, productivity…)
To increase the students’ independence and autonomy.
Students will become more tolerant.
Students will be raised to critical global citizens, having an eye for diversity.
Students can expand their cultural and linguistic horizon.
Students will learn how to acquire competences like knowledge, skills and attitudes.
We hope that also the supervisors will acquire something : a better quality of teaching.
By dissemation we hope that also others can gain profit from our know how.
