Strategic Mentoring

End date: Jun 30, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
Background
Development of projects in non-formal education and learning goes forward and it already changes educational environment and perception of non-formal education and learning (and also informal learning) into widely accepted concept. In the field of international non-formal educational projects, big role is played by voluntary projects. Volunteers who come to other country to learn are in need of a person who would help to guide them through learning process and assist with their self-reflection. This reference person is a Mentor.
As volunteers, in this sense we mean both EVS volunteers and other voluntary educational project volunteers. As mentioned above, the educational projects itself move forward and are updated and developed, which raises need for mentors who would be able to keep the pace with changes. In addition, and probably in relation with previous statement, we noticed higher interest of mentors or future mentors, in various international mentoring trainings.
Based on this information we decided to develop our own two stage Mentoring development project which would focus on following:
1st Stage in Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic from 8th to 15th of February 2016
Strategic Meeting-Partnership building activity
An event was aimed on development framework and methodology for the following mentoring training in order to include points partner organizations deem important for future development of their mentors. The result was a guide and sum of topics to be used to train mentors which these organizations will send to the next stage. By working on this common mentor educational strategy partners also deepened their relationships and learned in what fields they can cooperate in the future (organizations were “compatible”, as they had similar background and many participants, which were coordinators or CEOs already knew each other. Both personally or by e-mail communication through common past projects). The training will also included study visit to partner organization which is coordinated by KURO Hradec Kralove and which host EVS volunteers.
Profile of partner organization: An organization which operates in learning environment where mentoring is viable and used way of support; an experienced EVS organizations.
Length: 6 Days
Venue: Hradec Kralove, Czech Republic
2nd Stage in Dilijan, Armenia from 16th to 22nd of May 2016
Strategic Mentoring – Training Course
Based on information and methodology gathered from previous PBA the mentors sent by participating organizations will be trained in various skills including communication, intercultural learning, crisis resolution etc. The training course was built on information provided by partners in previous stage and the training was adapted according to them, so in short we can say it was built exactly according to needs of participants and fine tuned on spot, based on trainers´ assessment of the group.
