Staff Development through Job Shadowing and In-Service training
Start date: Jun 1, 2015, End date: May 31, 2017 PROJECT  FINISHED

Our organization have identified needs of staff development in the following areas: documentation as means of follow-up and evaluation, organization of time and spaces, the pedagogical environment with focus on creativity and exploration, and teaching methodology. Our pre-schools have for the past years been developing our staffs competence within these areas. We believe that participating in Erasmus+KA1 will provide new educational perspectives, open up new horizons and help us adopt new approaches to the processes of development within the above-mentioned areas. It is also of great importance to our organization that our staff enhance a multicultural knowledge that can be transferred to the children as means of arising a curiosity of and respect for other cultures We also see an added value in meeting other countries and cultures´attitude to teaching and learning. With this project we would like to increase the competence of our staff, raise their leadership skills, strengthen their professional approach to educational matters and help to create learning environment that fosters individual and collective learning, helps develop the organizational settings of the preschool and contributes to an amelioration of the educational offer. The plan of the project includes two periods of job shadowing activities (15 participants in all) and in-service training courses at two occasions (10 participants in all). The in-service training course provided by The Reggio Emilia Institute is in line with our identified needs. Reggio Emilias approach to child autonomy, the pedagogical environment, documentation and teaching methodology have been an inspiration to Swedish education system and to our organization for several years. We are therefore confident that the in-service training will contribute to enhanced knowledge and a deeper understanding of the pedagogical practices that constitute the basis for the curriculum of the Swedish preschool. The job shadowing activity will meet our identified needs through meetings in real life where our staff gets a possibilty to follow preschool teachers in their daily tasks, observe, reflect and document everyday practices. It will also provide an opportunity to consult colleagues, reflect partners best practices and offer the means of comparison of methodology and practices. The exchange of experiences through the different activities in the project will help us evaluate our own practices, create the preconditions necessary for an adequate identification and implementation of new measures that can be adapted to our own circumstanes and contribute to individual and organizational development. The expected results of our experiences can be described both as short-term effects referring to individual development and long-term ones as an amelioration of the educational offer and a continuous professional development of all the members of staff. We will also get a deeper knowledge of educational systems and matters referring to early childhood education and care. We feel confident that the initiatives specified in this application will satisfy the goals of the Europe 2020 strategy and contribute to reaching national priorities and goals of the curriculum as well as regional and local development plans and priorities.
