Stärkung des Europaprofils am Ulricianum
Start date: Jun 1, 2015,
End date: May 31, 2017
PROJECT
FINISHED
The European dimension takes on an important role in the profile of the Ulricianum: since 2002 the school has proudly been holding the title “Europaschule”, has been managing annual Comeniusprojects since 1996, regularly takes part in the European Competition and meetings with members of the European parliament are organised on a regular basis.
Long-term aim is the establishment of an European curriculum in school which is due in 2019 for the next application for the title “Europaschule”. The 14 participating members of staff and school management will work on this curriculum to productively make use of the experiences gained in the mobilities.
Mainly staff from the departments Languages, Politics, History but also staff organising exchange programms in school will participate. The participants will strengthen their language and subject skills as well as profit in cultural and social competences. Besides the collegues will use the mobilities to improve their teaching skills in matters of methodology, didactics and subject-matters.
Additionally, their cross-border understanding of educational systems and measures on an Europaen level will be enhanced. This effect is associated with a greater understanding for social, cultural and language diversities. Perspectively, the collegues will be enabled to support and encourage even more activities that lead to student mobilities. As a result, the measures improve the competence of taking action in an European dimension and lead to a more professional and more distinctive cooperation with European partners.
The mobilities planned can be devided into the following categories:
Members of the school's management want to attend a seminar in school management focussing on the concept of autonomous school administration and a reinforcement of the European dimension in school. Additionally, they want to visit a school that can be seen as a good practise example in those focus areas.
Two members of staff being responsible in exchange programms plan a visit to their partner schools. The relationship of the partnering schools will be improved and the visit enables an insight into subject as well as administrative levels. Both collegues will profit in their language competences, one of them will attend a special language course during his stay. Three collegues teaching English and content and language integrated learning will attend seminars of CLIL in Great Britain. They will reinforce their language skills as well as their teaching skills in their subjects (history and politics). Three teachers want to attend drama courses in order to use those skills in language classes. They want to reinforce the oral language production in their foreign language lessons and additionally use the skills in the drama club. The participation in a debating course will result in an English debating club that complements the excisting German debating club at the school. The English teacher also wants to make use of the skills to reinforce his higher level English students in their oral performance. The Dutch language course should reactivate a collegues's Dutch language performance and result in a club in school offering Dutch for higher level students that plan to study in Groningen. Two other collegues also plan language courses to strengthen their language skills but additionally plan to make use of this visit to gain partner schools that are willing to start exchange programms with the Ulricianum.
The participating staff not only spread their experience in their professional group in school but also agree to act as multipliers and to present the outcome of their mobilities in several commitees in school. Due to this the mobilities consolidate the international dimension of the school that is defined in the school profile and part of the daily routine at the Ulricianum.
