PROJECT
FINISHED
The project is a long term (12 months) EVS for one volunteer, which will take place in behalf of TEJO (World Esperanto Youth Organisation) at our headquarters in the city centre of Rotterdam.TEJO has been actively working since its foundation to break the communication barriers which separate the young people all over the world, through the organisation of educational programs, weeklong conferences and trainings. The pursue of our fundamental aim, to promote understanding among young people, is possible thanks to the voluntary engagement of youngsters across all over the world, who establish a positive collaboration through the use of the neutral language Esperanto. Voluntary engagement is therefore the essential and vital source of work in our organisation. To our volunteers at the headquarters we offer a truly international and intercultural experience every year. Each volunteer benefits from a manyfold and multilingual environment. He will support the staff in different activities in the fields of education, public relations and event management at a European scale. He will receive an insight in the management of the everyday office and field work of an international NGO, and empowered to develop and promote his own ideas and pursue his alternative solutions. The project will largely focus on public relations, culture, the promotion of events and the transmission to the local and international public the organisation’s aims and values. The volunteer will therefore be encouraged to broaden his knowledge about the Esperanto language, its culture and the concepts of language rights, diversity and protection of lesser used languages, and to advocate for them in different manners, e.g. during our residential events or through the media and social networks.Beside that, TEJO can offer the volunteer the opportunity to be involved in numerous activities. The EVS volunteer will be playing a supportive role to the organisation’s staff and board. He will be able to design brochures and leaflets, edit website articles, assist the organisation of conferences, update databases, prepare the background material for TEJO’s publications, draft the articles for its newsletter, support communication activities. He will also be involved in the life of the local Esperanto club, and create connections with other local stakeholders. Part of his work will be in the library, to take advantage of the collected cultural richness and to help to promote its existence and functioning. At the end of the volunteering year in Rotterdam, the volunteer will be experienced in communicating and cooperating with young people from all over the world, have had a taste of the diverse cultures, and have worked in a multinational office in a multicultural city.
