This exchange will focus on 3 similar (Inner-city) community's in 3 different countries, Ireland, Finland, and Malta. The young people involved are all from disadvantaged areas of their own city, are all aged between 15 / 17 years and are still in school.
There will be 10 young people and 2 adult leaders from Finland, 10 young people and 3 adult leaders from Malta, (1 of the Maltese young people has special needs so one of the Maltese leaders is assigned to look after him) there will be 10 young people and 4 adult leaders from Ireland (Being the host country and knowing what is needed to comfortably run the exchange we felt 4 leaders was necessary).
The activities the young people will take part in all revolve around sports, such as Team-building, Low-ropes challenge, Orienteering, Archery, Traversing claiming wall, Survival skills, Mountain biking, team games, paint-ball-shooting target practice, Zip-line, Grass-sledging, water pipes, High-ropes, crate-stacking, team challenges, “Hurling” and Gaelic football, and swimming.
Each country will also present some traditional games, or old games from their own country's.
We intend to use sports as a way to break down any barriers between the young people, with the potential longer term benefits to each young person huge, such as making new-friends from different country's, exploring different cultures, food and language, and then hopefully have the opportunity to visit each others country at a later date.
