"Speak and Learn" Language Course for Exchange Stu..
"Speak and Learn" Language Course for Exchange Students (17 Languages of the EU Member-States on Mobile devices)
Start date: Nov 1, 2012,
Mobility of young people is increasing thanks to the Erasmus, Leonardo and Comenius programmes. It very often happens that students have difficulties to adapt to a new country because they do not speak the local language, and because of communication problems arising from the fact that English, German or French, which are usually taught as second language at school, are not spoken by the people of all EU Member States. It is very useful to have basic knowledge of the language of the country where the participant is travelling. Knowing the main pronunciation rules and most typical sentences needed in communication is already very helpful. The project will develop a multi-language interactive audio-visual product for learning languages – “Speak and Learn”. The product is created on the basis of the languages of the countries covered by Erasmus, Leonardo and Comenius. The product will enable a learner to learn the necessary language at level A1 and his possible access of level A2. The essence of the product lies in learning a language not through a third language, i.e. English, but the mother tongue. When creating the product, the main pedagogical strategy used is the situational teaching of foreign language, immediate immersion in speech. The amount of explanations in the study product is reduced to minimum. The project will create a product on the basis of three of the most popular platforms – iOS, Android and Windows Phone. This allows using the product on tablets and smart phones that are the most popular among young people. The product does not require permanent connection to Internet, the consumer will have the device with him/her at all times. The impact envisaged – will help young people in adapting to the country to which they have travelled through the Erasmus, Leonardo or Comenius programmes. Multi-linguistic products will enrich pedagogically the language-learning methodology on the basis of using the newest mobile devices.
