The Brandenburgische Sportjugend (Sports Youth Brandenburg) is an independent working youth organisation in the 'Sports Federation Brandenburg'. Its members are children and teenagers as well as their youth representatives who are organized in more than 2.500 sporting-clubs. It counts more than 137 thousand members under the age of 27. Therefore it is the largest youth association in the state of Brandenburg. The 'Brandenburgische Sportjugend' offers numerous projects regarding sport, youth-work and social-youth-work The ''Brandenburgische Sportjugend'' is going to act as the coordinating organisation in this project. The project foresees to host 1 volunteer from Italy in the Project Center in Neuseddin as receiving organisation for a period of 12 months. The project implies the integration of the volunteer in the Project Centre in Neuseddin by supporting the co-workers in their daily work with youth. By learning to use sport as the educational tool and working method the volunteer will have a possibility to assist, to take part and engage himself in the following Social projects: 1) Mobile “Street Sport on Tour” - project gives assistance to sporting clubs in enlarging their offers for children and teenagers and in the execution of their sport events. By offering new and trendy sport possibilities, the project corresponds with the interests of children and especially teenagers inside and outside of the sport organisations. 2) “Integration through Sport” - describes a programme for the integration of "repatriates of German ancestry". The essential aim is revealed when helping young people from the former Russia to get used to living in Germany by sport activities, or when promoting the living together with the local residents and helping to decrease existing barriers. With the help of the sporting-clubs, the social and linguistic integration is growing, especially during games and sport activities. 3) “Street Soccer for Tolerance” - aims of this project are wide ranging and include involving of socially discriminated young people and encouraging socially acceptable behaviour whilst connecting the young people with the mainstream. The game will provide an alternative for young people from life on the streets, drugs and alcohol and will promote the development of interpersonal skills including interaction, negotiation and compromise and encourage equality between males and females. Main tasks of the volunteer are to get acquainted with sport and financial structures in Germany; support the planning, preparation and organisationof sport events for young people; look after young people from abroad and international guests; cooperate with the volunteers and young people from sports clubs and federations and to get acquainted with the social projects and the educational method „Street Soccer for Tolerance“. Furthermore, the volunteer should have the possibility to develop his/her own project idea. The project is expected to offer the volunteer several non-formal and intercultural learning opportunities, as well as, learning-by-doing experiences. Plenty of skills can be learned in the field of the event management and social youth work through sport. Project aims to develop the sense of initiative, flexibility/adaptability and coping to new challenges, ability to plan and organize activities to the project, proactive attitude and independent work, leadership abilities and conflict management skills. The project is seen as an opportunity to get valuable experience, to increase volunteer's employment chances in the future, to improve foreign language competencies and to promote paricipation in democratic life in Europe.
