CircO is a circus school for children and youths in Hanover. CircO’s goal is to offer cultural education through the medium of the circus arts. The circus is a place where young people of various nationalities, backgrounds, and of varying abilities can learn together on an equal footing. We focus on working with inclusion within various groups and schools. A volunteer from Strasbourg will accompany our pedagogical circus staff for a year. She will learn through example ways to promote and encourage the children and youths in finding their own strengths and, through this, developing their own self-worth. In our courses the children and youths can choose to learn skills from the whole spectrum of the circus arts: balancing, acrobatics, juggling, aerial (trapeze and silks), equilibristics, dance, music and physical theater. Within our circus groups we have children of many different nationalities and a staff member from France would be a real asset to our team whilst also serving as a role model in terms of language competencies. She would help the German children to understand the difficulties that immigrant children face, and to help them learn that everyone plays an important and equal role in the grand scheme of the circus irrelevant of where they come from and what their mother tongues are. In this way the circus is a playful and lively example of an ideal cooperative and inclusive environment in a multicultural Europe. Unitas in diversitas.
