Social and Solidarity Economy in Europe: affirming a new paradigm through IVET curricula innovation

This project aims to affirm the Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) in Europe through IVET curricula innovation, specifically in existing professional profiles of economics, management, financial and social area. Its inspiring vision is a comprehensive training and professional development of younger generations, which integrates alternative socio-economic models in their framework of ideas and attitudes. Currently, contents regarding the SSE are mostly inexistent in IVET curricula in most European countries. At the same time SSE is a promising but still largely unexplored subject of action, research and policy, and its concept is largely unknown, to most people, professionals and decision makers.Given this context, the objectives of the project are set: 1. To map the opportunities and constraints for affirming SSE in IVET curricula at European and national levels; 2. To develop a common package of IVET training modules on SSE; 3. To advocate for the inclusion of IVET training modules in IVET curricula at European and national levels.Following these objectives, the project develops in a sequential logic structure based on a three steps approach:Step 1 | Strategic assessmentThe first step focuses on assessing and analysing the national and European scenarios concerning SSE in IVET, in a conjoint effort from all project partners. A digital publication will result called “Mapping of the potentials and constraints for affirming SSE in IVET curricula”, which will be disseminated in national workshops in seven partners countries, involving local, national and European IVET providers and SSE organisations, policy and decision makers at national and European levels and local and national IVET trainees.Step 2 | Curricula innovationThe second step aims to develop a common package of IVET training modules on SSE which is relevant and meaningful both at national and European level. Three training modules will be produced on the themes of “Values and Principles of the SSE”, “Democratic Management” and “Ethical and Solidarity Finance”. Three pilot trainings will be organized in different countries to test and validate the IVET training package on SSE, so it could be reviewed and improved with the actual experience of training and with trainees and trainers feedback. National workshops will be held in seven partner countries to disseminate the modules among local, national and European IVET providers, SSE organisations, and local and national IVET trainees.Step 3 | AdvocacyThe final step focuses on a conjoint advocacy strategy involving the partners and relevant stakeholders, based on the development of an “Action Plan for affirming SSE in IVET curricula” and a “Policy Brief” with a European and 7 national versions. These outputs will be presented at an International Final Seminar in Portugal, specially targeting policy and decision makers at national and European levels and also involving local, national and European IVET providers and SSE organisations. They will also contribute to continuously disseminate and affirm the common package of IVET training modules beyond the end of the project. Aligning with the values and principles of the Social and Solidarity Economy, the project methodology is democratic and participatory. The proposed division of tasks is both collectively negotiated and aligned with the partners’ missions, aiming for a true commitment among all. It capitalises the strengths of each partner and also their motivations and strategic plans for future action. Expecting to benefit around 450 people, the main expected results and impacts of the project are:- Increased knowledge and comparable data at national and European levels about the scenario of SSE and IVET;- New tools with European relevance to increase and improve IVET activities at national levels;- Increased knowledge and methodologies for IVET providers to deliver more innovative curricula; - Concrete joint strategies for SSE organisations to advocate for IVET curricula innovation;- Strengthened common strategies at the level of national and European networks for continuous institutional cooperation with different kinds of stakeholders in order to advocate for IVET curricula innovation; - Raised awareness about SSE as a new socio-economic model for social change;- Increased awareness about the value of integrating SSE in IVET curricula; - Augmented access to human resources trained in SSE;- Augmented attractiveness of IVET curricula as education and training high quality choice.This project holds a great potential of sustainability regarding its strong investments in terms of networking and advocacy initiatives. One of the expected long term impacts of this project is the enlargement of SSE contents to multiple levels and subsystems of education and training. Moreover, the Action Plan has the potential of being fed in the future through its adhesion by other relevant stakeholders.
