Social and Economic Development of Teriberka
Start date: Apr 13, 2012, End date: Oct 12, 2014 PROJECT  FINISHED

The last word has not yet been said about the utilization of the Shtokman gas field. Teriberka village on the Arctic Sea shore has now for some years been living with uncertainty about whether or not it will be a central on-shore transit point for the field. If this will not happen, fishing industry is one of its few possibilities. Murmansk Regional Small & Medium Business Support Agency will start development work in Teriberka by carrying out this project. The project will assist Teriberka in developing better living conditions and enhance economic growth in the municipality. The fisheries industry is one central target group. In the project, the actors will co-operate in creating better working conditions for the fishery companies in Teriberka. Activities include e.g. competence transfer and training of the workers in the fillet industry, and establishing cooperation between fishing companies in Teriberka and Finnmark. Achievements: The project made great contribution to developing better living conditions and enhancing economic growth in the municipality. Russian entrepreneurs, specialists and municipal officials learnt best Norwegian practices and improved competence in fishery and aquaculture, agriculture, entrepreneurship and municipal administration. Cross border business relations were established in agriculture, services, recreation and tourism. Cross – border business in fishery is realized mainly through cooperation between Russian and Norwegian fishing unions. Living standards in Teriberka were improved, 2 new sports and recreation facilities for active leisure were built (multifunctional sports court and children sports playground), providing for creation of physical outdoors meeting places for inhabitants. Project activities connected with waste management provided for better environmental situation in Teriberka and cleaner township. New agricultural activities have risen in Teriberka. For example, a cooperative will start reindeer farming. The first aquaculture complex is under establishment in Teriberka. The project led to a more comprehensive political dialogue between Finnmark county and the Murmansk region. The cooperation between municipalities has become more practical, B2B- and results –oriented.
