"So Far, So Close" is a training course on intercultural learning and intercultural dialogue, using outdoor activities as a tool in youthwork, which will take place in northern Romania, near Baia Mare, in Statiunea Izvoare, between 26th of August 2015 and 1st of September 2015 (excluding arrival and departure days). For 7 days, it will reunite 24 participants from 10 organizations coming from EU, Eastern Europe and the Caucasus: Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Latvia, Poland, portugal, Romania, Spain and Turkey.
The participants are experienced youth workers in their organizations, which are facing the lack of motivation of young people to develop outdoor activities, and who are working with youth from different cultures.
The objectives of the project are: promoting and exploring the "outdoor", "healthy lifestyle" and "active citizenship" concepts in relation with youth work, promoting non-formal education methods, introducing Erasmus+Programme as an opportunity for European youth mobilities, raising the intercultural and outdoor competences of the youthworkers, promoting respect for cultural and European diversity, and promoting the fight against racism and xenophobia among young people and youth workers, designing and developing new project ideas in the Erasmus + for youth workers, the extension of reliable partners in youth, cooperation with partner countries, sharing methods, experiences and tools among youth workers as best practices for encouraging the use of outdoor activities in an intercultural and international context.
The methods used during the training course will be non-formal, with a strong intercultural and outdoor approach: role plays, energisers, ice-breakers, movie watching, world-cafe, circle practice, storytelling, open space, learning to play and playing to learn, sinergy, debriefs, rope techniques, hiking, solo in nature and many more.
As a result we anticipate raising the intercultural and outdoor competences of 24 youth workers from 10 countries and a long term impact of participants using the methods learned in this project, in their youth work, will form new generations of youngsters, open minded, tolerant, flexible, with a high self esteem, with team spirit and sense of initiative, actively involved in the life of their local communities, becoming good leaders and youth workers as well.
