In Vatnsendaskoli the focus is on the individual pupil, diverse teaching methods and creativity. The focus is on outdoor teaching, hands on science, hands on mathematics and art. These subjects are taught in workshops but we are willing to improve our teaching and apply new ways to teach all subjects. In this project we emphasis on increasing our knowledge in creative work, thinking skills and outdoor education. Eight representatives will be sent from the school to get acquainted to these new methods and introduce them to other staff of the school. These representatives have approximately twenty years of experience in teaching and in administration and they have specialized in outdoor teaching, teaching young children and teaching children with special needs in mathematics. After each seminar the project will be introduced to the staff of the school and they will be updated. While the project is taking place the representatives will be helping, and supporting the staff in implementing the project to their teaching methods. When the project is finished we assume that the staff has a good knowledge of the project and will be capable of using the new teaching method in their teaching. The project will also be introduced to pupils, parents and the educational office in Kopavogur. The aim of implementing the new teaching methods is to make our pupils more critical in thinking, encourage them to use research methods in learning and hope that they will be more creative in their learning process.
