Simulation Games: Seeking Asylum
Simulation Games: Seeking Asylum
Start date: Jun 1, 2016,
End date: Dec 31, 2016
PROJECT
FINISHED
Main activity of the project is a training course “Simulation Games: Seeking Asylum” for the youth leaders coming from 8 different countries: Sweden, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Georgia, Croatia, Turkey and Romania. The training course is designed to help youth leaders and youth workers, trainers and educators to learn how they can use simulation games (role play simulation games) to teach young people the issue of forced migration and refugees; to help their integration into local communities and to prevent or solve conflicts between the locals and forced migrants.Simulation game is a great learning method where participants learn about the “real life” through simplified structured activities. The participants of the TC will learn about the method of the role-play simulation games: how to use, how to adapt for certain leaning purposes and how to create their own simulation activities based on the local realities. The training course will take place in Sumy, Ukraine, October 9th-14th, 2016. The main working methods are based on the non-formal education principles: role-play simulations, group work and discussions, brainstorming, team-building and trust building activities, energizers, ice-breakers, getting to know each other activities, intercultural night, reflection groups etc.Aims and objectives: - to discover the challenges which appear in the communities in Europe connected with the forced migration and refugees and to look for solutions to these challenges;- to learn about how youth can be active on the local level to help in the integration of the forced migrants;- to learn about the role-play simulation games method (structure, specifics, usage, adaptation for the certain needs, creation of the games) and how it can be used to prevent or solve problematic issues connected with forced migration;- to create new role play simulation activities based on the participants’ realities which will be used in future for prevention or solving local conflicts connected with forced migration. As a valuable project result we expect that participants will create they own simulation games for their target groups which they will use in their work in the nearest future. The materials and results of the TC will be summarized and published on-line for an open access for all interested parties. In that way the youth leaders and organizations not directly involved into the project can benefit from its results.Additionally working in an international group will give the participants an opportunity to network and form international relationships that can lead to lifelong friendships and partnerships. We expect that new international projects (within Erasmus+) will be developed and implemented by the partners as an effective follow-up of the project. In a long-term perspective we expect that the project will have a positive influence on finding effective solutions on the challenges connected with the support and integration of the forced migrants and refugees in Europe.
