SILVER LIVING - Programme for life-long learning

Demographic change is particularly visible within the borders of the EU founding countries. Thus, the living conditions have to be adapted to this changing requirement of an ageing society. Taking into account the demographic trend, residential homes for the elderly are often overcrowded and there is a shortage of professional caregivers in this area. We have to find ways to provide a life in dignity to elderly people in an age-adapted living environment at home for as long as possible. For this purpose, the Chamber of crafts and the Caritas developed a training that combined core competencies of both institutions and included topics such as care-giving to the elderly as well as constructing barrier free living spaces. The training addressed occupational groups like craftsman and caregivers. The projet’s aim was the successful and sustainable importation and dissemination of trainings concerning accessibility and barrier free living Partners in Italy, Romania, France and Austria. Besides improving the quality of life of the target group, the project also aimed at promoting work, as the target group (craftsmen, social workers) got to know new products and methods for the “silver clients”. The project also aimed at raising awareness in the political and public sphere for the topic "accessibility".
