Deaf people continue encounter barriers to education, employment and access to the provision of goods and services. It is necessary to understand Deaf culture and equip those working with deaf people with necessary education, training and qualifications so that they are better skilled in bridging (at least) a communication gap as well as being able to better under Deaf people’s needs. The education sector is targeted as evidence shows poor educational access, lack of societal integration, stigmatization of sign language (SL) users which has led to low levels of literacy, under employment and low levels of educational opportunities.
