Shorter Plane Routes were implemented through the establishment of Functional Airspace Blocks (FAB) in the Baltic Sea region (the North European FAB, Danish-Swedish FAB and the Baltic FAB (joint initiative between Poland and Lithuania). Achievements: By 4 December 2012 Member States shall take all necessary measures in order to ensure the implementation of functional airspace blocks with a view to achieving the required capacity and efficiency of the air traffic management network within the single European sky and maintaining a high level of safety and contributing to the overall performance of the air transport system and a reduced environmental impact.Danish-Swedish FAB has been declared established and notified to the European Commission in 2009. North European FAB (NEFAB) includes Estonia, Finland, Latvia and Norway The agreements have been signed and ratified by the states and documentation are registered at the depository. This means that NEFAB will be established in accordance with the requirements in December 2012.
