Sharing Ecomony V waste culture is a sharing, learning and experiencing project. The project aims to educate and create real change in young peoples lifestyles and their societies through the discovery of ways to tackle waste, recycle and upcyling.
Around 90 million tonnes of food wasted in the EU each year and 2014 has been declared the European year of food waste. The project help young people to reach sustainable solutions to tackling these problems through research in home countries, practical workshops, debates and seminars as well as visits. By comparing and contrasting different methods and practices throughout Europe they will share knowledge and develop better systems for implementation at home.
40 Young people aged 16-25 will descend upon London and with a series of visits, workshops and community dialogue learn how to live in a modern world saving money and saving the planet.
The participants will have the task of gathering this information from the week and collating it into a neat booklet able to be distributed in the locality and respective countries with a series of tricks and ideas to fight poverty and save money.
They will be supported by non-formal educators, carpenters and environmentalists.
The main targets of the project will be:
- Generate awareness about food waste, clothing waste and poverty action
-To introduce the idea of recycling, foodcycling, upcycling and community action
- Be able to use the methods of non-formal learning with young people
Through a diversity of non-formal education methods, like debate, arts and crafts, seminars, practical workshops and locality research, participants will have the opportunity to express their thoughts, messages and ideas in a creative way
Preference will be given to young people with fewer opportunities
This project’s hand book will be presented to the local MP in London and distributed locally in places catering for poverty action, this can also be replicated in respective participant countries
The project and other material will be promoted via an online project blog contributed to by all participants, enabling the wider world to see and comment on the solutions created which in turn will reduce waste and increase the sharing economy.
