SIGNS IN EUROPE is an International Youth Exchange that will take place in Turin ( north - western Italy ) and that promotes the deaf culture and its integration with the hearing world through a path of knowledge and mutual sharing. Participants will include 24 young people from Italy, Turkey and Belarus. The right to communication has been sanctioned by the UN in 2006 and in 2007 was also recognized for the Deaf. Bu only in four EU countries the Sign Language is provided by the Constitution, while in Italy there is no recognition of this vital communication tool. The Association Eufemia has developed an active role towards disability and in particular of deafness, and then combined the expertise of different stakeholders in the organization of "Signs in Europe The objectives of the project are: - to break down the barriers of communication in every context of daily life and help disseminate best practices for accessibility; - to remain vigilant on the concepts of identity, language and culture, stimulating a reflection on deafness which invests not only the deaf community but also hearing people, so as to encourage dialogue and debate; - to pomote the integration deaf and hard of hearing . Promote active knowledge of deaf culture . Deafness is not only a disability but a real culture ; - valuing differences . To counteract discrimination; - to combine diversity and creativity; - to raise public awareness on the issue of deafness and communication for a new reading of disability as different skills; - to encourage language learning and promoting linguistic diversity and intercultural awareness. During the ten-day exchange the 24 participants, half of whom are deaf, meet other young Europeans to reflect on the difficulties associated with hearing loss and will have the opportunity to experiment in the visual-gestural communication through non-formal activities, guided by experts. At the end of the exchange a flashmob in the city will be realized. It will expose the results obtained (songs in Sign Language and photo project) and to involve and educate a large number of people. "Signs in Europe" will favor a better integration of both types of actors involved: the deaf and hearing ones; getting closer their worlds and allowing a real comparison, without prejudices. The promotion of deaf culture will be realized in the first person by the participants / multipliers that will foster the dissemination of knowledge gained through performances, interviews, articles and discussions. The project will make use of the principles and methods of non-formal and will be conducted in a style strongly that promotes active participation and personal development of the participants, either as individuals or as part of a group, in each phase of the project, sharing methods and good practice.
