Scouting a Path
Start date: Jun 25, 2014, End date: Dec 24, 2015 PROJECT  FINISHED

Scouting a Path EVS project brought together 8 volunteers from Bulgaria, Sweden and Ukraine to come to Malta and gain experience in the voluntary sector together with The Scout Association of Malta. This experience helped them develop new skills; foster self-confidence; meet new people, work in a team environment as well as encourage social and community responsibility. The Scout Association of Malta (TSAM) hosted these volunteers and provided them various activities where they could both contribute to the association and develop themselves. The activities held during the project can be divided into four main areas: Supporting our International Scout Campsite and Centre, promotion and utilisation of facilities and activity areas, empowering Training and Programme Department as well as aiding cohesion between National and Group Levels. The EVS volunteers were supported by a network of sending organisation as well as hosting team, which were available within the life-cycle of the project. The volunteers had access to pre-departure training, training, review, evaluation, personal and mentor support as well to post-EVS reflection. Participating within the project has enable a mix of youths coming from different scenarios and expectations of life, to fully understand the rewards of supporting volunteering within the local community. Their daily tasks varied from manual to administrative duties which often challenged the volunteers depending on their skills but at the same time were supported through a network of local volunteers. This interaction with local volunteers and people enabled the EVS volunteers to integrated within the local culture and get an insight to the diversity that builds up the European Union. All of this packed together has given the volunteers a unique and valuable experience not only for their way of living but also improve their future work opportunities.
